Exo 17:6 Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.
A we look at the Word of God in the Old Testament we see prophecies, we also see types of the coming Messiah, like the Passover Lamb and also people who were types of the Coming Anointed One. Here we see an inanimate object. A Rock representing Christ. Representing the Giver or Baptizer in the Holy Spirit. The One Who satisfies us and sustains us when we are in a desert place.
I took this photo in the Philippines with my Huawei Nova 2i.
As I have been saying the Old Testament is only understood properly through the New Testament and both New and Old Testaments are only truly understood through Jesus Christ.
The Rock in The Wilderness was a Type of the Coming Christ
MOSES GOT HIMSELF IN BIG TROUBLE OVER THIS ROCK. HE WAS SUPPOSED TO STRIKE IT. HE WAS TOLD AFTER THAT TO SPEAK TO THE ROCK. THE WATER WOULD COME BY MERELY SPEAKING TO THE ROCK. JESUS WAS ONLY STRUCK ONCE. HE HAD TO ONLY SUFFER ONCE. HIS ONE SACRIFICE ON THE CROSS WAS ALL THAT WAS NECESSARY.
Jesus and this Rock
1Co 10:4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
ON THE DAY OF PENTECOST JESUS STOOD AND TOLD PEOPLE OF THE WATER HE WOULD PROVIDE AND A DRINK THAT A PERSON WHO DRANK THIE WATER WOULD NEVER THIRST AGAIN.
Joh 7:37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
Joh 7:38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
Joh 7:39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
During this feast the Jews would remember the rock that provided water for the Israelites in the wilderness for 40 years. They had a normal rock that they would splash water on to commemorate this lesson in history. Jesus stood there at this time and said He would provide water.
Joh 4:13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:
Joh 4:14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
It is amazing that this Rock followed the Israelites in the Wilderness. There is nothing that says they toted it from place to place. It is estimated this people could have been 7 million people plus livestock that we kept alive by the single most important source of life. A person cannot exist without clean water every day. Equally important in our spiritual life is to drink from the source of life, Jesus Christ
