Man is the only sentient species on the planet and is therefore the only one apparently capable of an interest in the wellbeing of the planet and all life on it.
Whatever other forces may impact the future of life on Earth, the character of Man has become the most influential of all in deciding the future of the planet and all life on it.
The most powerful impact on the character of Man is a motherhood. Mothers have a far greater propensity for love and nurture than do fathers and are specifically equipped for the purpose in a wide variety of ways. Nations are built at the knees of it's mothers.
While a mother has this tremendous capacity and natural inclination to perform this most important of all functions for any species and especially the species which can steer the future of all species, an essential requirement is the participation of a father in providing a suitable environment, free of violence, anger, strife and trauma and also providing the support, wherewithal and time to effect this marvelous work of producing, nurturing and loving the next generation. Where a parent is lost a replacement should be sought and if that cannot be then the community should fill the gap.
In the dynamic observed in the majority of species we might compare ourselves to, the roll of mother cannot be replaced and interference in this roll results in dire consequences.
The most effective means of destroying a species might well be to disrupt this roll and this has proven especially true with Man.
A perfect example of this is provided by the Apartheid system implemented by the South Africa government before true democracy came about in 1994. While this system was not originally intended to function as it did, its implementation was characterized by laws which limited movement of people not considered part of the ruling ethnic group and they were only allowed access to the areas replete with employment opportunities for the purpose of employment and were not permitted to have their families accompany them.
One consequence of this policy was to deprive the father of his roll of supporting the mother in many aspects of her roll in raising children and thereby depriving the children of the constant example of a father's good conduct and the hand capable of defending the health and honor of his family.
This destruction of the proper function of the family has had a devastating effect on the nation and produced a violent, maladjusted generation bent on revenge and out of touch with the principles of the law of the harvest as their focus is firmly on their deprivation and their perceived consequential entitlement.
The country currently has a violent death rate normally associated with war, an unprecedented unemployment rate, incredibly high rape rate, especially among school children, and an economy which is allocated a junk status.
This despite the fact that this country was the most successful on the continent and the hub of Africa south of the equator.
Another stark example was Adolf Hitler, who witnessed the abuse of his mother by his Jewish butcher of a father and raise in a Jewish environment. He became obsessed to the extent that he personally orchestrated the termination of the lives of at least 6 million Jews. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adolf_Hitler#Early_years
Possibly the most important contribution to this destruction of the family unit is provided by the inappropriate conduct of men in fulfilling their responsibility to their wives and children in terms of fidelity, earning an appropriate living and participating to the best of their ability in the primary purpose as husband and father, thereby turning the minds of women to emancipation since the lives afforded them by their husbands were inadequate in catering to their needs and the needs of their children.
The emancipation of women has resulted in homes devoid of the most important resource in the development and retention of the character of Man. Man of course meaning men and woman as no man exists without women. This resource is the constant attention a wife and mother gives to the loving nurture of her family in all the education in character and learning required for growth and development of the attributes which make for an industrious beneficent nature and character.
Timothy Leary said : "A woman who wants to become like a man has no ambition."
This is because the greatest ambition a human being can have is to raise a posterity fit to improve its posterity in turn and the world we live in and men and women therefore aught to have as their ambition, to develop the most effective marriage they are capable of with all other ambition secondary.
My wife taught second grade for 18 years and reported that over 80% of children in her classes of 30 to round 35 were from single parent homes where the father was no longer there to fulfill his roll. This situation is not limited to South Africa but is the norm in much of the western world.
The character of Man is determined by his upbringing and Man without appropriate character is not inclined to make choices which are best for Mankind.
The state of humanity at present is appalling. We have the capacity to tend to the needs of all humanity and the planet itself, producing clean energy, ample food, superior education, phenomenal scientific progress and excellent health
But the powers that control us, whom we allow so to do, make elitist decisions which produce stifled education, skills limitation, debt slavery, racial and religious contention, hunger, murder, war, genocide, global warming, destruction of species and much more. These men are not the product of generations of righteous living but of moral depravity, where moral means beneficence.
The revolution required to correct the trend toward destruction of our world is a revolution of our behaviour, away from the current trend and toward the natural system which brought Man to the pinnacle of beneficence among the species of this planet, without which we are most certainly doomed to destruction.

15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
Exodus 20:12 Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.
Notice the promise associated with this commandment.

A PROCLAMATION TO THE WORLD
The First Presidency and Council of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
WE, THE FIRST PRESIDENCY and the Council of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, solemnly proclaim that marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and that the family is central to the Creators plan for the eternal destiny of His children.
ALL HUMAN BEINGSmale and femaleare created in the image of God. Each is a beloved spirit son or daughter of heavenly parents, and, as such, each has a divine nature and destiny. Gender is an essential characteristic of individual premortal, mortal, and eternal identity and purpose.
IN THE PREMORTAL REALM, spirit sons and daughters knew and worshiped God as their Eternal Father and accepted His plan by which His children could obtain a physical body and gain earthly experience to progress toward perfection and ultimately realize their divine destiny as heirs of eternal life. The divine plan of happiness enables family relationships to be perpetuated beyond the grave. Sacred ordinances and covenants available in holy temples make it possible for individuals to return to the presence of God and for families to be united eternally.
THE FIRST COMMANDMENT that God gave to Adam and Eve pertained to their potential for parenthood as husband and wife. We declare that Gods commandment for His children to multiply and replenish the earth remains in force. We further declare that God has commanded that the sacred powers of procreation are to be employed only between man and woman, lawfully wedded as husband and wife.
WE DECLARE the means by which mortal life is created to be divinely appointed. We affirm the sanctity of life and of its importance in Gods eternal plan.
HUSBAND AND WIFE have a solemn responsibility to love and care for each other and for their children. Children are an heritage of the Lord (Psalm 127:3). Parents have a sacred duty to rear their children in love and righteousness, to provide for their physical and spiritual needs, and to teach them to love and serve one another, observe the commandments of God, and be law-abiding citizens wherever they live. Husbands and wivesmothers and fatherswill be held accountable before God for the discharge of these obligations.
THE FAMILY is ordained of God. Marriage between man and woman is essential to His eternal plan. Children are entitled to birth within the bonds of matrimony, and to be reared by a father and a mother who honor marital vows with complete fidelity. Happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ. Successful marriages and families are established and maintained on principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities. By divine design, fathers are to preside over their families in love and righteousness and are responsible to provide the necessities of life and protection for their families. Mothers are primarily responsible for the nurture of their children. In these sacred responsibilities, fathers and mothers are obligated to help one another as equal partners. Disability, death, or other circumstances may necessitate individual adaptation. Extended families should lend support when needed.
WE WARN that individuals who violate covenants of chastity, who abuse spouse or offspring, or who fail to fulfil family responsibilities will one day stand accountable before God. Further, we warn that the disintegration of the family will bring upon individuals, communities, and nations the calamities foretold by ancient and modern prophets.
WE CALL UPON responsible citizens and officers of government everywhere to promote those measures designed to maintain and strengthen the family as the fundamental unit of society.
This proclamation was read by President Gordon B. Hinckley as part of his message at the General Relief Society Meeting held September 23, 1995, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
